BSC igniteCS bridge to Computer Science Program
Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) igniteCS, is a certificate program designed to bridge the gap for graduates of non-technical programs who are eager to pivot into a career in technology. By enrolling in the igniteCS bridge program you will have the opportunity to complete up to transfer 2 courses that can be applied to any of BSC master’s programs.
Overview of Bridge Program
Our 1-year six course bridge program prepares students in programming and software development, website development and web programming, as well for entry into BSC’s Master of Science in Data Science Programs. Upon completion of igniteCS, students will have the ability to:
- Create computational solutions to problems
- Demonstrate the development process from problem to solution
- Explain the ethics surrounding different technologies
Course Structure
To successfully complete the bridge program, students must complete a total of six total courses equaling a total of 24 credit hours. Course options are below:
Required courses:
- MA 240: Discrete Structures
- CAC 180: Programming Fundamentals
- CAC 250: Software Development
- CAC 540: Digital Ethics
Two electives from the following:
- CAC 220: Database Development
- CAC 410 : Foundations of Cyber Security
- CAC 520: Data Science Statistics
- PL 241: Introduction to Logic
Admissions Requirements
Students with a bachelor’s degree in any field are eligible to apply to BSC igniteCS. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 out of a 4.0 scale in order to be considered for admission into the bridge program or relevant life experience.
Please note: BSC does not have the authority to offer I-20 forms for F-1 visa-seeking students who are applying to BSC igniteCS. However, international students who are currently in the US not on an F-1 visa are eligible to apply to this program.
Duration of the Program
The total duration of the program is 1 year. There is currently no accelerated option for students to complete the program.
Mode of Instruction
All courses will be taught online and asynchronously.
Cost
$2,100 per course.
Students should plan on the purchase of necessary course materials.
Application deadline
The deadline to apply for the fall start term is August 2024.
Start term
This program only offers a fall start term. There is no spring or summer intake.
